The entire Rozana family was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our International Advisory Council member Amb. Martin S. Indyk on July 25, 2024. Martin was a brilliant, engaging colleague and friend who committed much of his life to the pursuit of peace between Israel and her neighbors.
Raised and educated in Australia, Martin found his way to the United States and ultimately was at the center of U.S. government policymaking regarding Israel and the region over the course of three decades. This included two stints as U.S. Ambassador to Israel for President Bill Clinton and as special envoy for President Barack Obama. After leaving government, he served at the Brookings Institution and the Council on Foreign Relations.
When we approached Martin to join our International Advisory Council, without a moment’s hesitation he told us that Rozana was exactly the type of project that was needed at this time to advance Israeli-Palestinian peace. He agreed to join the Council and offered advice on strategy, ideas for fundraising and introductions to people inside and outside of government circles. He was thrilled when we were awarded a MEPPA (Middle East Partnership for Peace Act) grant and enthusiastically shared the news within his network.
Last September he readily agreed to speak at a parlor meeting in Manhattan organized by Rozana. As he arrived he told me that he had just received news that his cancer had returned. I told him that I was overwhelmed that he still came under these circumstances; he responded with his characteristic smile and said “it is my life’s work.” At Rozana we are inspired by Martin’s passion for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian and rededicate ourselves to the vision he saw for the region.
